FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cape Town, Durban, Midrand, Pretoria and Stellenbosch, South Africa 31st March to 04th April 2025

Inscape Education Group is thrilled to announce Project 81 – a multidisciplinary collaborative design
project. This groundbreaking initiative is aimed at fostering collaboration among first and second-year
students across various design programmes, including digital marketing, fashion design, interior design,
ideation design, and graphic design to tackle real-world challenges and create a positive impact in South African society.

Inspired by Cell C the ‘Nothing should stop you’ design brief challenges Inscape design students to boldly re-imagine Cell C’s branded clothing range. Small groups of students are challenged to collaboratively ideate and visualise a range of corporate garments that will be worn by both client-facing and non-client-facing
employees at Cell C.

Key Components of Project 81 for 2025

  • Collaborative Teams: Groups of five students from different design disciplines work together to develop innovative solutions for both Cell C’s client-facing and non-client-facing employees.
  • Integration of Design Disciplines: Each design team leverages the unique strengths and
perspectives of its members to choose their own branded clothing design and strategy. Garments must be visually appealing, practical, comfortable and easily produced, preferably using locally made fabrics, prints and colourways for both male and female employees. The garment range, choice of fabric, colour and print styles must be highly relatable to all South Africans.
  • Real-world Application: Students are challenged to apply their design skills and aim to create a corporate wear collection that embodies Cell C’s innovative, people-first brand while balancing style, professionalism, and practicality.
  • Hands-on Learning: Through a combination of guest speakers, on-campus workshops with
practicing professional design lecturers, and collaborative group activities, students gain practical experience and develop essential teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Peter Harrison, Postgraduate Manager at Inscape, commented, ‘Project 81 affords our students rich exposure to the exciting creative opportunities that exist for design, branding and real-world problem solving, in social contexts which are relevant globally and locally. This exciting opportunity from Cell C dovetails beautifully with Inscape’s approach of getting our graduates #societyready #lifeready #challengeready and #workready.’

With a focus on sustainability, social impact, and multidisciplinary collaboration, Project 81 represents a forward-thinking approach to design education, empowering students to become local changemakers.
